Welcome and Bienvenidos to Mission West RV Park, the ‘Star of South Texas’

Located just minutes from spectacular local attractions and bustling Mexican border towns, nestled within a copse of sprawling mesquite trees in the heart of Mission, Texas, lies a quiet, tranquil palm lined park, Mission West RV Park, known locally as the ‘Star of South Texas’.

Each year thousands of visitors are drawn to area attractions that are interesting, unusual and unexpected. Like Missions World Birding Center in Bentsen Rio Grande State Park. This is a 762 acre subtropical vegetation and Resaca woodland boasting over 300 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies.

Close by is the last operating hand-drawn ferry in existence, crossing a narrow ribbon of the Rio Grande River adjacent to the Birding Center. The ferry was first used in the 1740’s by Spanish explorers, then later by Texas Rangers chasing banditos and cattle stolen by rustlers.

Conversely, also along the gritty banks of the Rio Grande, is the La Lomita Chapel, the namesake for the present day city of Mission. Built over a century ago. It is now on the National registry of historic sites.

Football fan? Tom Landry, legendary coach of the Dallas Cowboys, was born here in Mission. View a breathtaking 50 foot mural of Mr. Landry and highlights of his life painted on the side of a local building by local artist Manuel Hinojosa.

Just south east of Mission is Little Graceland, a privately owned museum adored by Elvis Presley fans everywhere. The museum owner served in the Army with Elvis in Germany and collected for display an impressive array of memorabilia including albums, photos, and posters. Were you aware that Elvis was a black belt in karate? Feeling vulnerable??
